Jaipur Royal Gaitor funerary complex

Jaipur Royal Gaitor funerary complex

Housed within the marble walls of the Royal Gaitor funerary complex sit the lavish white marble mausoleums of Jaipur’s royalty. The cenotaph of Maharaja Madho Sing II, the ruler famous for taking 5 wives and 18 mistresses yet supposedly remaining heirless, dominates the first (and newer) courtyard.

The older of the two courtyards to see the intricately carved monument to Maharaja Jai Singh II, who inherited the rule of Jaipur when he was only 11 years old and the is responsible for the planning of Jaipur City and its astronomical observatory Jantar Mantar. He was the first ruler to be interred here and his tomb is perhaps the most impressive.
